So more progress…
I have an old nightgown that has spaghetti straps. Well one of the straps had come unattached from the main part of the nightgown. Well, that should be an easy fix, right? Just take some thread and a needle and sew it up. I’ve done it a million times. But not lately. Not since the stroke. So I gave it a shot. Much to my dismay, the first couple of attempts proved to me that my fine motor skills had not recovered to that point. And let me note that balling up a nightgown and throwing it to the ground is ok, but balling up a nightgown with a needle and throwing it to the ground should be reconsidered. But persistence pays off.
I did finally succeed at sewing that little strap back on. Yep, I did it. Given, it doesn’t look gorgeous or anything but it is fixed. And it’s a nightgown – not like I’m wearing it out on the town or anything…although in my younger days that might have been something I would have considered. At any rate, I consider this progress even though I seem to be minimizing it here. I’m pretty excited about it. I haven’t spent a lot of time practicing writing the last few days but since I’ve overcome this little milestone I may give it another shot.
And my speech is improving. There is still definitely some work to be done. Most words are intelligible again while some are not. But the more I talk, the better it gets. This is good news because if you know me, you know how much I like to talk.
Oh and I went back to work this week. Yep, true to Missy-style I cannot stay away from work. It would probably be different if I worked with computers or something but being a therapist means people depend on you. It was hard. Especially with labored speech but I made it through. I was unusually tired afterwards but a friend came by and refreshed my energy level.
Anyway, that is my status update.
