You know how good things can come from bad things?

Well, this little note is about just that. For years, I’ve had rules of life that I try to live by. Someday I’ll post them on here too. I may write a book about them first though. Who knows? But aside from that little tangent, I’ll stick with my story. I can whip them out in any conversation and frequently do.

Yet for years now I haven’t been able to remember one of the rules. And I remembered I’d ranked it highly in importance! See, all of my rules have double meanings. But I fear I’m about to tangent again.

Here’s the bad thing that led to the good thing: I wrecked my car and was stranded in Wyoming (for a few days) until my sweet friend came to pick me up and take me back to Salt Lake City (so I wouldn’t be paying for a hotel room). I still, however, had no car to take me home and the cost of renting one would exceed any money I had to spend. It would be cheaper to buy a one-way plane ticket. So that’s what I did.

Here’s the good thing that came from the bad thing: It was during my flight that I remembered my 3rd rule of life. For years I had beaten myself up for not being able to remember something as important as number 3 and suddenly it was there. Of course, it was there because my seatmates were not following the rule but it was there nonetheless.

So that is, for me, one of the ways that good things come from bad things.

And, just in case you’re dying from curiosity, number 3 is: When someone offers you gum, take it.
